Equity Analyst

Job Description

This role involves producing and presenting high-quality equity research to support informed investment decisions for a South Africa–focused equity management strategy. The research focus is exclusively on equities listed on the JSE.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed, in-depth company and sector research to identify both opportunities and risks.
• Prepare and deliver formal research outputs, including written reports and verbal presentations.
• Provide well-supported, conviction-based investment recommendations aimed at delivering returns above relevant benchmarks and peers.
• Proactively identify and communicate notable positive and negative developments within the coverage universe.
• Actively participate in equity management meetings, contributing relevant insights and analysis.
• Produce ad-hoc content for internal teams and external audiences when required.
• Attend client meetings as needed.
• Comply with investment management policies and procedures, complete relevant compliance training, and promptly address any potential compliance issues.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year’s professional experience in an equity research or listed company analysis role.
• Proven track record of sound investment judgement.
• FAIS compliance, including the (RE5) Regulatory Exam for Representatives, is an advantage; otherwise, the candidate will be supervised until fit-and-proper criteria are met.
• Experience with FactSet or similar market analysis tools.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan ahead, manage workload effectively, and meet deadlines.
• Team-oriented, supportive, and collaborative, with the ability to work across different departments.
• Clear, concise communication skills, both written and verbal.
• High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all deliverables.
• Solid technical understanding of investment principles, processes, and relevant systems, with a commitment to continuous learning.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn complex data into actionable insights.
• Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for equity markets.
